We invited a few close friends of Isaac's and their wonderful families to celebrate his birthday with dinner, cupcakes and (thanks to Adam and Sean) a bonfire to finish the night. Which all the boys loved. We did end the party just about when the 4-year-olds started lighting long sticks on fire and trying to touch various things with them, including a tree and at last one person...
Isaac had wanted to eat dinner at his favorite restaurant, Benny's Cantina, so we had them cater the meal. Of course the restaurant forgot to make our food, so Adam had to wait half an hour while they made it and we all wondered what was keeping him. But the kids were happy, the grown-ups drank beer, and Adam finally came back with a great spread of food. The kids got bean and cheese burritos and chips - Isaac's favorites. For dessert, I'd made the requested chocolate cupcakes with chocolate icing and sprinkles - yum.
Beer and wine, burritos and fajitas, a warm summer night outside, good friends and a fire = fun party for parents and kids. I didn't get to do half the preparations I'd planned, but Isaac loved every minute of it - which is of course what matters most.
